A Walk through Vivero Cactus

One day in November, three friends from Chapala Haciendas who share a passion for plants decided to go Buen Fin day at ViveroCactus in west Ajijic. I do believe we left CH as mature adults, but arrived at the vivero as excited adolescents. Of course, the vivero was amazing and we wandered erratically and oohed and aahed loudly and sentences like “don’t pet the cactus” came out of our mouths. It was a great day.

In honor of this amazing place, I thought I would share some of the photos of the vivero in case some of you share our passion for plants.

The entrance gardens are well cared for and very primeval in feel. Even most of the trees are in the succulent/cactus category.

The commercial nursery area consists of 4 large greenhouses or screen covered structures with plants spilling outside to the walkways. Looking at all the mesh canopies is telling me I need to give my succulents a bit more shade.

The tiny pots seemed to go on forever. The selection is overwhelming and it took us several passes through each isle to digest what we were seeing. Good prices too! We reminded ourselves our gardens were already filled with impulse buys from previous vivero shopping trips and we managed to control ourselves. Our purchases were modest and all fit in the back of my tiny March.

Have your say!

  1. Great article and pictures. I do question the maturity and intelligence of your friend with the urge to pet the cactus!! LOL.

    • Yeah, wonder who that could be???? I believe she just bonds with plants.
