Chapala Haciendas is located approximately five kilometers north of Chapala on highway 23 or about seven kilometers through the Jocotepec-Chapala #119 road (locally known as Libramiento) from the intersection of the WalMart road. From WalMart you can go west to Ajijic and Jocotepec or east through San Antonio and back to Chapala. Chapala Haciendas is only thirty minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and about 45 kilometers from downtown Guadalajara.
Chapala Haciendas is one of the oldest developments in the Chapala area dating back more than fifty years. There are approximately 260 residences between the three sections. Numbers 1 and 2 have the same number of residences with number 3, the smallest, with twenty residences. The Fracc offers its residents water distribution, garbage collection (garden trash is included) three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), street maintenance, street lighting and Chapala Police does security patrols.
Chapala is the largest city on the shores of Lake Chapala, with a population of just over 22,000. Chapala is one of the favorite week-end and holiday destinations for people from Guadalajara and surrounding areas. Entering Chapala, a landscaped median divides Calle Madero as you pass the plaza with its charming bandstand, central market with its fresh produce and outdoor restaurants. With its beautiful fishing fountain, picturesque pier, lakefront malecon, boat rides, and restaurants along the lakeshore and Calle Madero, this is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening. The weekends are very busy with families enjoying the malecon and nearby Cristiania Park. Chapala, San Antonio Tlayacapan, Ajijic, San Juan Cosala, Jocotepec and the surrounding areas have been expat retirement areas for more than sixty years, boasting some of the best year-round weather.
